EQ secretary

Hello Brandon, I took 1-Carolina reaper grated cheese, 2- Armenian cuke, 3-Pork bacon and lastly BBQ chips to the Nathan Bird family for our ministering message today. We talked about how unfun it is to be spit on, sworn at, called names and have beer poured on you as a missionary even though the message you have to share is the most spectacular message in the world. Audrie was the only one who could remember giving a gift that was rejected. As it turned out Nathan just didn’t like the color. ha. @ She said she had a break down/glitch last year and she is taking her meds now and hopes to remarry. Nathan sounded quite resistant. Can  you imagine picking your wife up from jail over and over?    I would be resistant too. So Brandon have you ever pondered on the meaning of this scripture: Sunday · 8:15 PM\D&C 88:33 roger n nate. . . this was our ministering lesson today. V\10:14 AM\33 For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift.

Monday, 10/28/24 from Barbara. Sometimes I am so rewarded Brandon!!  Hey V, thanks for all your responses, it’s fun. I’m glad to have someone to share this with, makes it so much more rewarding. I have 4 meetings today for VROC ha! ranging from Orientation to Devotional to Training, etc. I think one good thing about this mission is the added interaction with Church-oriented folks, which will absolutely feed my soul. You have been the recipient of my focus for quite a while, patiently putting up with me. Cute!  But you are admittedly, on fire !  I think we’re in a good place now that I have learned to rein in my sharing just a bit. Even so, look how much I had here on your doc in just a couple of days. Crazy. Anyway I hope all this makes sense. You make up for all those who never share/ respond/ contribute.  I am attending 2 choir practices each Sunday and almost all of us have been public school teachers.  You have a public/church school teacher personality!!!  One thing I know for sure is I won’t stop indexing Italian records or sharing here with my teammate. Thank Heavens!  And I am so curious about your new mission. If you wanted to share any journal entries about it I would love it!  It is part of me now and it’s a very good part. I want you to know I appreciate you reflecting the good in me back to me. I think that is a very Christ-like attribute that you have and I am trying to follow your example HA!!!. Absolutely brilliant !!!  Reflecting back !!!   On one of my podcasts, they talked about encouraging the youth by saying to them, “I see this in you” when you notice something good about them. I think this is a good thing to say to anyone, anytime! We all need this kind of positive feedback. What you have seen in me and reflected back to me helps me believe I am changing for the better. I believe it is something our Savior wants us to do for each other. Yippie !!!!   It gives us hope that we are really making progress on this journey to overcome the natural man and become a saint. Long way of saying again long and so meaningful!, thanks! 11:30

Not a name, is it?? Father is illiterate?? Ha beats me!Allegutti. . . that dot threw me too!  Squished A.

I would attend our 2 choir practices on Sundays if I could SING! Jealous. One thing I know for sure is I won’t stop indexing Italian records or sharing here with my teammate. You’ve taught me more than just how to index Italian records!  On one of my podcasts, they talked about encouraging the youth by saying to them, “I see this in you” when you notice something good about them. See how we dialog!  So so personal and individual and meaningful. What a blessing to me! tyhf.

B- Here’s a mission note. I mentioned today in one of our meetings about indexing and reviewing Italian vital records and my lead said she’ll see if I can count my work on that as mission time. Realistically I rather doubt it, because there are a number of very well-defined projects in place they need us to work on, complete with written instructions, training videos, and priority levels. But it did make an impression!! My first work as a missionary until I’m trained on other projects will be reviewing city directories and naturalization records. Interestingly, they said there are inmates indexing city directories. They can index but they don’t review. Like our Italian projects, indexing in those projects can get way ahead of reviewing, so we help out. Awesome update!!!!

Hello Nathan Bird, Merrill Palmer, Roger Eves & Vern Jensen

This is our ministering thread.

Did you see me in the stake choir today?

1-Our building was invited to meet in the stake center today.

2- Our building ( 2,4,6,8 wards) provided the choir.

3-Just like last time with the primary choir we descended to sit in the congregation after our 20 minutes of prelude music was complete and the opening prayer had been given.  Creative plan!

4- We were only allowed to sing two verses of each hymn so Sister Johnston could entertain you with as delightful variety as possible! This surprised me.

5- And then a 🎻 to join us on the opening hymn! WHAT?

6- Pres. Barney gave us a specific assignment. Do you need a hint?

8:25 AM

Hint #1      What was the overriding theme of SC?

merrill Palmer Jul '24

Don't mind if I ignore this (and similar future) thread(s). I'm not interested. If I could unsubscribe I hereby do .

Sorry Merrill.  That works for me.  Vern

The good news: 9:18 AM

Hopefully you two are entertained or stimulated by my stake conference comments.I removed Merrill from this thread. Live n learn.-is one of my mottos.

Q Nathan Bird -I enjoy them.  Thank you Vern

roger eves-Me too! I saw you in the choir.

How were the tomatoes? I made tomato soup from scratch with the ones I had. It was better than I thought it would be.

Answer to my hints:  Pres BB asked us to read the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet every day with our scripture study.  I have not done it yet.

Brandon, as silly as it may sound, it hurt to have my efforts to reach out rebuffed. It soothed to have Nathan & Roger reassure me. Relief! tyhf. tears.

Wednesday, Nov 27, 2024 Good noontide Brandon! I have had the stomach flu for the whole month!  Cramps and exhaustion. Get up every hour, on the hour at night some nights. No fun!  I was even too sick to INDEX! @ At the beginning of the year I included HF in a new years resolution to try and find more friends and to get involved and be less lonely. Some of my efforts have been: 1- Attend an old singles FHE on Monday nights. I think I have gone 3 times so far. 2- Attend the 8th ward picnic in the park ¾ weeks. 3-Accept a calling as EQ secretary. 4- Support and create a thread for BYU football games. Kunzler’s, Derfler, Owens, Bethers. 5-Wilburn/McDonald Italian Indexing thread. 6-Ministering thread. @ I attended my first EQ presidency meeting at 8-9:30 pm Sunday night. 11/24/24. I skipped church because of stomach flu. I wanted to go to bed at dark, 6pm but I listened to a gripping story to stay awake. President Josh Borgeson dropped by Sunday 11/10 and I leaned my head against the wall by the front door as we talked and he extended the call. He did not require an immediate answer. “Let me know,” he said. He had warned us in his testimony that since Greg Walker was now a bishopric counselor he would be hunting and praying.  2 months ago I was released from music director. Guess who is available! Could I be the answer to his prayers? @ The strangest thing Brandon, was when he said he was looking for someone with talents/abilities to help fill in his weak ones. And he told me some of them, but I did not listen. I figured it was flattery. So here I am feeling wanted, needed, important, valued and trusted and befriended Brandon!  Does that sound like the opposite of lonely?  @ I took notes Sunday night. I tried to keep my head down and not stick out my neck. That was my plan at least. But I can’t help but participate. I admit I did clap/applaud a few times. I did cheer and congratulate a few times. I did share a visual aid and spiritual thought at the end: Saints, 1, 2, 3, and question: what color is #4? @ I have been in a number of bishoprics as secretary, and a number of EQ presidencies but never the president. tyhf!!! I feel so much pressure and burden in leadership callings. I don’t know how Josh, Kent Perkins, BBB, Bish T, Quincy Adams, do it. TyHF for men that don’t get physically and emotionally ill with those callings! thank you, thank you, thank you. I can’t believe my son Robert is doing it. I understand how it broke my son Louis when he was called fresh off his mission with all his emotional baggage. I think my son in law Michael Dalhquist has been able to do it. But I am absolutely not one of them.  @@@ Roger Eves is back from his world cruise and then his Japan cruise. I am so proud of him!  Awesome job Roger!  I called last night and asked what he could be proud of accomplishing yesterday? He paid his house taxes at the county building. I reciprocated by reporting my ministering phone call to Merril Palmer. And best of all was when Merrill at the end said: “OK, I feel ministered to.” [Yay! cheer! applause! success!] humor:”Someone wrote a note in our memorial book that they were my ministering brother and tennis partner emeritus and that seems like a bit of a stretch.” I agreed to go play tennis or paddle ball with Merril. He noticed what I wrote months ago and was holding me to it. See what an interesting character he is!! @@@

We have all felt the weight of the troubling times we live in and what is happening in the world and in our country. I love this experience of General Authority Seventy Gerald Lund with a few of the Seventy eating lunch together in a small cafeteria in the basement of the Church Office Building. They were all bemoaning the state of our country and the world and what was going to happen to our country and government. President Nelson (then a member of the Twelve) joined them at the table and ate quietly while listening to their discouragement. One of them said, “They are talking about the possibility of the whole government of the United States failing. Then what shall we do?” Elder Nelson, who hadn’t said much since sitting down, laid down his fork and looked at us directly. His expression was very sober and he spoke quietly, saying something like this. “Brethren, the Lord chose the United States of America as a place for the Restoration of the gospel in our dispensation. He did that so we would have a base of religious freedom that would sustain the work of the Restoration. Also, the financial affluence and the political stability of the United States make it possible for our Church to take the gospel to the world. That is a task that is not yet finished. Brethren, the Lord is at the helm. He will not let this work fail.”[Brandon, I absolutely love this!!!! v] Elder Lund continues. “I vividly remember two things. First, how sheepish we felt for letting\ourselves become so negative. And the second was the lesson taught: God is in control. Why then do\we fear? It was a profound teaching moment, and I have reminded myself of that day often when I\have found myself growing discouraged and pessimistic. God is at the helm.” (Gerald N. Lund, The Second Coming of the Lord, p. 11) Let us always remember who is in charge of this earth and to listen and follow His chosen prophets, seers, and revelators. We have a marvelous work to do. We love you. Elder and Sister Packer 2pm-good enough for today. See ya. v

Vincenzo Papalardo Indexing Recognition AWARD

    ***Vincenzo Papalardo Indexing Recognition AWARD***

                             Lloyd   Simpson

&

Patricia Parker

____________________________________________

You indexed more than 10,000 names in our May, 2024 Challenge.  Hooray!    Yippee!    Astounding!    You are awesome!    Thank you!

The women (RS) had 23 sisters join their group this May!  The men (EQ) only had 10!  The RS had 23,000 entries completed/names indexed! Without Vern & Lloyd Simpson the EQ had 858 total.  Lloyd and Vern are so amazed at the wonderful sisters who hauled long and hard to get those 23K!   We are a ward team!  Thank you! [Explanation of title of this award.  Vincenzo Papalardo are real Italian names that Vern took on as an alias at the FSC, 2014.]

6/26/24 Wednesday>>>>
I was pleased to finally see the RS's indexing numbers yesterday on Kathleen McDonald's account at the FSC. I made this award last night hoping to somehow celebrate those who contributed. Low and behold my sharing with Patricia bore fruit: Tuesday · 12:30 PM
I wrote this text to Lloyd S:
Kathleen came to index. I got to see the RS numbers for last month. Our ward had 52k RS had 23k Oh my goodness! They were closer than we thought. . .

3:39 PM

Okay, 11,816 of those were mine.

5:51 PM

Yippee! Yahoo! i am so proud of you!
I discovered that I can use a computer at the county public library near the canyon (9 miles away) to do indexing :-). But we are in St G this week, so I'm getting some home time with air conditioning!! Temple tomorrow with Rosario. She is praying hard that she can sell that big house to some good people.
i LOVE IT! What a great friend you are! I made these certificates last night:Oh, sweet. We did our best. It's good to join together in a worthy cause. And I'll try to keep indexing as much as possible.
It was thrilling to attend the Saratoga Springs temple a few days ago -- the floor plan there is identical to our Red. Cliffs temple! I knew my way around as soon as I walked in the front doors. I'm so grateful for a divine Father who reveals great plans to his prophets on earth today. Thanks for your encouragement.
Patricia, you know how to join indexing groups. Would you be interested in joining ours? I would love to see your work and progress and you will be able to see ours. I will make you an administrator like everyone else in the group so you can print reports.

Not this summer, as it is impossible to know when I can be near a computer or Internet while we are in the Canyon. But maybe next winter?
