3 talks I would have loved to have given in sacrament meeting!

Jesus of Nazareth, Savior and King”

"Today I desire to hold up that light by testifying of Jesus Christ and what he has done according to what I know, have seen, felt, and heard in my life. This testimony involves my reason and my experience—the two limited but helping witnesses! Happily, there has been given to me the third witness of the Spirit—the unimpeachable and convincing witness!"
"My only regret is that what follows is apt to be the verbal equivalent of a child’s enthusiastic finger painting—because my tongue cannot tell all I know. Even so …

I testify that in our first estate Jesus was the incomparable individual among all our Father’s spirit children. He helped to prepare this planet for us and led—not pushed—us from our premortal post. I thank him for the untold things he did, across the ages of that first estate, to prepare perfectly for his unique role—while I was doing so very much less. I thank him, further, for not deserting those of us who are slow or stragglers.

I testify that his intelligence is vastly superior in every field to the very brightest mortals in those fields and that his intellect in scope and truth far exceeds all human intellects. I thank him for encapsulating that exquisite mind in both perfect love and perfect humility. His brilliance is not the “catch-me-if-you-can” kind, but a pleading and patient, “Come, follow me.” ( Luke 18:22.)"

O How Great the Plan of Our God!

"Think of those early disciples who walked and talked with the Savior during His earthly ministry. Imagine the thanksgiving and reverence that must have flooded their hearts and filled their minds when they saw Him risen from the tomb, when they felt the wounds in His hands. Their lives would never be the same!"

Considering all of this, how could it ever be possible that we of all people would not be excited about attending our Church worship services? Or get tired of reading the holy scriptures? I  suppose this could be possible only if our hearts were past feeling to experience gratitude and awe for the sacred and sublime gifts God has granted us. Life-changing truths are before our eyes and at our fingertips, but sometimes we sleepwalk on the path of discipleship. Too often we let our selves be distracted by the imperfections of our fellow members instead of following the example of our Master. We tread a path covered with diamonds, but we can scarcely distinguish them from ordinary pebbles.

The Power of the Word

"Not all of those Lehi saw perishing were of the world. Some had come to the tree and partaken of the fruit. In other words, some members of the Church today are among those souls Lehi saw which were lost."
This address, prepared for delivery at the Friday, 4 April 1986, Priesthood Leadership Meeting, was delivered in part by President Benson.

The congregation will feel your conviction while appreciating your willingness to expose your weaknesses.  Therefore Giving them permission/confidence to acknowledge the Lord's hand in buoying them up and making their weaknesses strength.

Nice job!

WOnderful Flavor of Vern! I love it and I love you!
And
YOU are sharing a visual aid?!?!? I thought only the apostles & prophets could do that. Just kidding - i shared a visual aid once in sacrament meeting when my talk was about the importance of getting the WROD of GOD, the Doctrine into our homes. I held up a Book of Mormon for Latter Day Saint Families and a New Testament for Latter Day Saint families to show visually what great books we have with pictures and graphs and glossary all available with the true words of scriptures. I love you very much.
Blessings to you.

Hey Vern.
I liked your talk.
It was chock of full great GC insights with a wonderful sprinkling of your dashing personality.
I'd say - it was a win win.
And I bet the Spirit helped to make it a home run.

What think ye?
How did you feel it went?
