Any
idea who that is describing? I didn’t think so. He was before
your time and he was before my time! I was baptized the year he died.
Elder Elseworth worked in classroom A with me and the spanish
indexers/ arbitrators. There were only 6 of us today over the 3 hours
I was there. He met Henry D Moyle as he got off the ocean liner which
dropped him off in Argentina for his mission. Man I must be young! Or
Elder Elseworth must be old! I did not leave for my mission until
‘74. I am going to paste something from him that made me laugh
twice: He was ordained an Apostle April 10, 1947 by President George
Albert Smith and assumed his place in the Quorum of the Twelve. After
announcing the call, President Smith said, "The brethren whose
names we added to the list of the General Authorities by your vote
today have not had an opportunity, perhaps, to get their breath, but
we would be glad to have them tell us whether they are willing to
serve, or not, and they may say anything else they have in their
hearts. We shall ask Brother Henry D. Moyle to come to the
stand."
Elder Moyle's comments follow: "It goes without saying that we do in this Church what we are told. I have never understood that it was my privilege as a member of this Church, holding the priesthood, to say no. I have never had a desire in my heart to do anything other than that which the brethren direct. While I may feel as if some of the things that they have most recently asked me to do are beyond my power, nevertheless so far as my Heavenly Father will give me the power to act I shall do so, and all that I have and am belongs to my Heavenly Father. I had a grandfather who met with a very great disaster. All that he had was swept away by fire. His thoughts and his actions at the moment he was told of his loss have been on my mind for the past several minutes, and I must say I feel rather as he then felt:
. . . the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21.)
I know that the Lord can take that away which he giveth, if we give him cause so to do; that we may be the recipients of his blessings today but to continue to be such recipients, we must be obedient to his laws and his commandments."
Elder Moyle served the Quorum honorably until June 12, 1959, when President David O. McKay called him to be his Second Counselor. He was sustained as First Counselor to President McKay October 12, 1961 a position in which he served until his death.
In an address to the Missionaries of the California Mission, he stated: "I shall go to my grave saying that missionaries... never rise in their entire life above the stature they carve out for themselves in the mission field. I ask the missionaries all over the world to write that in their book, and then read the book ten years from now. If perchance, they have not risen in that first ten years after they come home from the mission field, above that status of mediocrity that they [may have] maintained in the mission field, [they should] get down on their knees, pray, and work a little harder and seek to overcome that tremendous handicap they placed upon themselves by their lack of application, lack of appreciation, and lack of dedication in the mission field. (Address to California Mission June 2, 1962) @ One laugh came as I imagined being called to speak extemporaneously in General Conference! The other laugh came at his boldness. You will never be any better in your life than you are as a missionary!! I just went and read his top 10 quotes. This one totally applies to me: Our ultimate aim in this welfare work is to help Church members to become self-supporting, and to obtain work they can do best. The Church, with its members independent and free from debt, with time to labor in the ministry, can then successfully carry on the work of the Lord here on earth.

Hello
Bloomington Hills 2nd
ward
missionaries!
Reed
Perkins regaled Patsy Lamb in his talk last Sunday.
re·gale
rəˈɡāl/
verb
past
tense: regaled;
past participle: regaled
He
said about 20 wonderful things about her, as she was a wonderful
example of love to him as a teen. And he reminded me she used to
consolidate all the missionaries letters each month and send out a
newsletter to each of them about each other! He also ended up with
two of her quilts, and besides teaching those teens she used to
invited them all over for a monthly Sunday dinner way before they
left on missions. You can see how he didn't have any trouble
sharing 20 wonderful loving things about her.
Here
are my 10 comments for today:
1-
Jesse Bird taught us in SS about FamilyHistory. Last week was the
doctrine, this week was the application he said. He told his wife
she should teach the lesson because she liked it. To him it is
boring. You would not believe how many expressed related feelings
during the lesson. She responded: If it is boring it is because
you are doing it wrong. By the end of the lesson he admitted he
had had a very narrow view and if it really includes all the
things we discussed it is much more interesting than he thought
and he had
been
doing
it wrong.
2-
One aspect of family history is journaling. Lisa Larson told that
she journals but she doesn't want anyone to read it until she
passes away. Jesse Bird said his dad journaled. 22 volumes. And he
made copies for each of his kids. Jesse has an abundance of
ancestor stuff. He has demonstrated that other weeks too. Then
came the joke of the hour: Lisa if you don't want anyone to read
yours until after you die, then I guess my dad has no shame.
3-RSpres
Barb Lefler conducted and taught our 5th
Sunday
joint meeting. She showed us at the start her lesson. Only 2
paragraphs! She said she was going to teach “the Savior's way”
in anticipation of next years lessons. She did it. And it was
great.
4-
Shannon Jensen was one of those who said she was like Jesse Bird
but that Mark Jensen was like Mindy Bird. She said that because of
Mark her 18 year old daughter has a goal of taking a name to every
Utah temple! How do you like that goal? How many Utah temples are
there? Of course Shannon cried as she shared this. :)
5-
We had no priests bless the sacrament today. Jack Taylor also
helped the deacons pass the sacrament. 4 Melchizedek priesthood
holders helping with the sacrament.
6-
Davenports are moving to SLC tomorrow morning at 4 am they will
pull out. Good bye Varlo & Andrea.
7-
ShannonJ gave the opening prayer in choir today, VernJ gave the
closing. ShannonJ was giving Jason Chappell a hard time about not
attending choir when he can sing. VernJ started giving Jason a
hard time for the same reason a couple of months ago. She sends
out Saturday reminders every week. Perhaps I could give Jason a
call at 7:45 Sunday morning! :) We have a wimpy choir if you have
not noticed.
8-
Sister Shanna Hoppie is the primary chorister. It was her big day
today. Those little primary kids sang their hearts out for her.
She is so vivacious. Vern thinks the most important calling in the
church is primary chorister. Do you wonder why?
9-
Time changes next Sunday. If I forget I will be an hour early.
10-
Guatemala has a tradition of “Burning the Devil” night.
Everyone goes out in front of their house and burns the devil at
6pm. I was there from '74-'76. I got to see it twice. Personally,
I like the idea better than Halloween.
The
bishop was there and smiling again today. He greeted me twice. I
was flattered. When important people greet you if feels so good!
God
bless you again this week and this month. Until I see you again,
God be with you.

3:30pm Good afternoon Brandon, Consider the answer you would give to these questions: What kind of world do we live in?-1 What is the most magnificent thing in the world?-2 Be sure you answer these one at a time in your mind. Read a question, close your eyes and imagine your answer. Come on, go back and do those first two! Did you do it? If so good job! I am proud of you. If not, you wimp, now go back and do them! Continuing: What will destroy you?-3 What is as deadly as a foul disease?-4 What is addictive like tobacco?-5 What is like an encompassing raging storm?-6 What will rob you of your sense of beauties of life?-7 What are you forever grateful for?-8 What must be included in the process of spiritual, physical and emotional maturity? -9 What is the fruit of self-mastery, self-control?-10 Can you tell what subject GBH feels so strongly about?-0 No number on that one, it is a rhetorical question unless, unless you can guess the answer. @ One habanero goes a long, long way. I made a picante soup with only a half! Man did it pica! [Pica most often means something that bites, like chile picante, something that stimulates your appetite, and makes you want to come back for more. It is also can be used for some one who bothers other people, which is a picaro. ] It took me all week to finish the 3 dozen eggs potato salad I made last Saturday. The weather is chilly so hot soup sounded so good. I ate it again for my 3rd time for lunch today and then I went to study a priesthood lesson. Virtue is the lesson I am on.
{There
is nothing in all this world as magnificent as virtue. It glows
without tarnish. It is precious and beautiful. It is above price. It
cannot be bought or sold. It is the fruit of self-mastery.} What ever
you answered was right on those questions Brandon. These are GBH's
answers. There are the answers to #2 n #9. Do you have issues with
GBH? Are you OK with what he says? He is so stinkin' literal
sometimes. {We
live in a world of filth and immorality and trouble.
}
{You
live in a world of terrible temptations.
} #1 two answers. Which do you like the sound of the most? {The
excuse is given that it is hard to avoid, that it is right at our
fingertips and there is no escape.
Suppose
a storm is raging and the winds howl and the snow swirls about you.
You find yourself unable to stop it. But you can dress properly and
seek shelter, and the storm will have no effect upon you.\Likewise,
even though the Internet is saturated with sleazy material, you do
not have to watch it. You can retreat to the shelter of the gospel
and its teaching of cleanliness and virtue and purity of life.\I
know that I am speaking directly and plainly. }
-6 answer: pornography. Can it be avoided? Probably not. But it is
the thing he calls a raging storm! Can we avoid a raging storm? Yep.
We know how to protect ourselves. GBH wants us to think we can do the
same with pornography. This part was given in 2004. What courage he
had, didn't he?!Can
you imagine walking in a room of people and being consumed with the
thought I wonder if I can do any of these women? Some people's lives
are obsessed with that thought. Do they experience peace? Nope. They
are addicted! So sad. And it is limiting. Before long they can no
longer sense the beauties of life, they have been robbed! They see
everything through the eyes of lust. The gentler beauties are gone,
lost. So sad. Is there anyone happy about this? Yep. Satan and his
cohorts. Success! they chant! @ Have you ever tried to understand
this scripture:
Paul’s
words to the Corinthian Saints are as applicable to us today as they
were to those to whom he wrote. Said he:
“If
any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the
temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (1 Corinthians
3:16–17).7
Those
are simple words. But they are ever so important. Paul is saying, in
effect, stay away from those things which will tear you down and
destroy you spiritually. Stay away from television shows which lead
to unclean thoughts and unclean language. Stay away from videos which
will lead to evil thoughts. They won’t help you. They will only
hurt you. Stay away from books and magazines which are sleazy and
filthy in what they say and portray. Keep thyself pure.8
Will
God destroy you? That is what it says. And the prophet endorses it! A
bit too strong for me. We are spiritually destroyed when we turn away
from HF. Do we dare approach him when we are unclean? See what I
mean. Back
in the early 90's I was obsessed/ addicted. If my parents were
abusers, how did they abuse us and others? I was blank, empty,
curious. I wanted to know more. Firewalls had not been invented. I
could go anywhere and view anything I wanted. I became addicted. I
saw every woman with lustful eyes. I became paranoid. I was afraid of
being found out. I became numb to the beauties of the world. They
didn't matter. Only my obsession mattered. I would ride my bike on
Saturday afternoon all the way to the school so I could use the
computer. Yep, I was addicted. A decade later mark clayton helped me
overcome that addiction. This last decade+ has been so wonderful to
feel worthy as I take the sacrament. To feel entitled to blessings
from heaven. To approach the Lord in confidence in prayer instead of
grovelling guilt. { Church
leaders [can] assist you in your difficulty. You can put behind you
any evil with which you have been involved. You can go forward with a
renewal of hope and acceptability to a far better way of life.>In
my case it took a church therapist. } {If you find yourself slipping
under the pressure of circumstances, discipline yourselves. Stop
before it is too late. You will be forever grateful that you did. } I
am forever grateful.-#8
It almost seems like GBH understood doesn't it? @His lesson is much
more powerful than what I have shared but as you can see I was deeply
touched by it. :)
