England and Rachel

Thx

Rachel has been such a hoot.

Back at the beginning when I told Ed how funny she was in her writing he said, I don't see it.  I told him to compare it to Megan's and he said I guess.

I love you chris. I think you are wonderful.  Thank you for posting all the pictures and keeping this blog alive.  I am all caught up and I usually clip and paste the strange and funny and touching things for me.  When Megan got home I sent them all to her. At least that way she knew I was connecting to her experiences.

Rachel has been such a personality in her blogs. I was glad she enjoyed her stay with Jacobmeyer because she was so not NOT looking forward to that area. And now they will be roomates in January!  So awesome.

She has had the richest experience. I never got to share your mission to Italy. But now I have been to Spanish speaking Manhattan, and England.  I never knew as much about Louis' mission to Spanish speaking Iowa as I do about these. And I kept my duty to write to him every single week. I skipped most of my journal those years and asked him for all the letters back when he returned.  I got them. Now I just need to bind them.

So next comes becca, as Rachel calls her.

A few people have asked me for Rebecca's blog.  It's very similar to Rachel's:
www.sisterrebeccaformica.blogspot.com   She's just starting out, serving in the Tempe, AZ mission until her visa arrives for Australia.  It's been a joy sharing Rachel's experiences with you all ... slowly coming to a close.  Enjoy!

============================================

I can never get out of these boxes and colors once they are on my blog. Sorry. vj

Anyway, It is Wednesday, 8/26/14

I got up and took off for the Family History Center yesterday.  I did some weird stuff as is usual for me.
1 I rode my bike.
2 I left my backpack home. No phone, wallet etc.
3 I took the help sheet and my green spiral notebook for recording my Italian Indexing efforts and a pen.
4 I jacked up my garments so they wouldn't show under my shorts as I rode my bike.
5 I took a pair of white socks and nice black pants, rolled up so I could put them on over my shorts when I got there and to keep me warm in the freezing air conditioning.
6 I took my genealogy glasses. I determined my old prescription works better for working on screen and writing up close than my new ones.
7 I took a can of green peas in case I stayed late and got hungry.

I celebrated, huge celebration in my mind and heart when after almost a year of trying I finally submitted my first Italian indexing birth batch. It has been the longest, humbling, frustrating experience to try to learn to do this work.

When Bro. Chenney conducted the workshop last Thurday night I was one of 5 stake members who attended. Ronda Taylor came by to check on us. Stake indexing chairman.

The workshop was so frustrating again.

-There wasn't enough room so I had to bring in my own chair and sit without a computer.
-I was late.
-It was a workshop and we did not work together.
-I asked for copies twice and Elder Hovey acted like what do you want these for?
-People seemed to shy away from me like I had bad breath and I had showered and brushed before going.
-I had put my BoM and seating chart in the car so if it was forfeited I would have someplace to go.
-I felt lost from the start even though I have figured out how to do this on my own.  I downloaded 6 batches of death certificates and births without the form and didn't know how to return them and find a birth record I could complete.

When two of the helper missionaries stopped in the aisle right next to me 2 hours into the workshop and said they didn't feel needed, everyone was trucking along and doing just fine, I raised my hand and invited one of them to come sit by me! I did get help from 3 different people but it was just a nudge and I needed a guide!  Finally, when Sister LuAnn Smith sat next to me and adjusted the distance so she could still breath, (was I really that stinky?) She helped me download a file to work on. No way was I going to stop with one. The helper brother next to me had said he downloaded 6 at a time when he found a good one so I downloaded 8 more! SSmith thought I was crazy but I was the one pushing the buttons so I couldn't be stopped.

I had told her I had never completed a batch before, at least I never succeeded on submitting an Italian batch and getting credit for it. For the hour before she came to help I just tried to set up the format for the indexing by making a page/line for each record on each page.

I did not get up and walk out an leave. I so wanted to. I kept telling myself, these are the people who know how to do this. A minute with them is worth an hour trying to figure it out on my own.

Back when I was first starting I thought there would be an Italian Birth record helper available somewhere in the Family History Center.  There wasn't. I did get help twice but I could only stand it for an hour or two and then I would leave. I had put in my time. That was good enough for me that day.

One day when hiking down Webb Hill I realized I needed constant help. I tried to figure out how I could get that constant help and decided I would take a "1 Up" Luigi baseball cap I had found at church putting away chairs last year and write ITALIANO  on the brim both on the top and on the bottom. That way I could put it on when I needed help and the Italian expert could come help me.

As it turned out, I walked through the whole place trying to find someone else working on the Italian Job/Project and there wasn't a single person. The people who understood were working on their computers at home at their convenience. Fighting loneliness and needing help I did not want to work at home. If I dedicated and hour or two to the history center I could return home and not feel guilty in my safe/relaxed place. Work could be at work and home could be for play and relaxing.

Though I thought I did not make any significant progress at the workshop last Thursday I did sit down to make some notes and to pray before I left. When Brother Woodbury left I said to him, are you going to do this? BW-I'm going to try. VJ-It is so hard!

As I sat and prayed I thought even though I might not know enough yet I can make friends with the people who put it on. I had written down their names except for two. I turned around and went back in. You know how hard it is to turn around and try again when you thought you were already done? I did. I turned around and went back to get the names of 2 others I had missed. Commitment.

Sometimes we have to get our thrills from just trying and going through the motions without completion. As I sat in that overstuffed chair I told HF, look, I have come, I have tried again, even though I gave up just before the Church wide/World wide Record setting event held on July 21 and 22 from 6pm to 6pm. I wanted to be part of that record and practiced doing marriage licenses the Saturday before so I would be able to be successful.

To tell the truth the marriage licenses were boring compared to the Italian mountain I had been trying to climb.

That Thursday night I came home motivated. I practiced Italian on some Youtube videos again and was excited. I went back to the FHCenter and tried again. Finding out how to use the "paginebianche.it" for the last name was the best! First names could be checked on the help screen. [control f]. Resizing this display so I could see dozens of name possibilities at the same time was critical. And yesterday during my 8+ hours for the first time I figured out how to start and or end a name and then have the website generate possibilities.

The spots on the certificate where I look for the information became clear to me. In fact the first batch I turned in had been started by someone else and the last 5-6 names were not on the certificate or form, it was all handwritten and I had to find the right words. I admit, I cheated. I was so desperate to turn in my first batch that if I couldn't find it anywhere then I just filled it in with a name that was there as far as the father or mother was concerned. That will give the arbitrator something to compare!

I finished a batch at 7:45pm last night and decided to call it good. I have decided I will sit in the same overstuffed chair in the entry hall by the elevator and pray at the conclusion of each visit. I am forming new habits and praying and pondering and reliving needs to be a part of the spiritual rejuvenation and regular communication I need with HF. There was thunder and lightning and it was pouring outside. I had no schedule to keep so I decided to go back in and start another batch. (I had one batch yesterday that would not upload and said it was corrupted. Hours of work and it was corrupted? No Way!) I started up another computer and checked to see if it said the same thing. I couldn't reopen it. : ( Oh well. Maybe if I left it alone it would fix itself and so I started on another batch but I felt like a mother that had left its child in the bathtub before it could swim. I so wanted to be there and protect that file/batch but there was nothing I could do.

Because I so value the time I am putting into each one of these and each effort I have made so far, I stop before submitting each batch and copy down everything into my green spiral genealogy notebook. So if that batch was corrupted and I could get it back I still have all the information!

I imagine, eventually there will come a time when it feels like a waste of time to copy it all down in my notebook. But starting at the beginning of the year I needed some way to validate my efforts. I might not be making any measurable progress but I was going to give myself credit for the efforts I was putting into trying.

As it turns out that class last Thursday night gave me the last missing pieces to my puzzle. Now, finally I have all the tools I need to complete a batch. In fact I can even fake it without the copied typed certificate.

Back in the middle I considered that those handwritten births might be my best way to go anyway. Then I would have many letters to compare so I could tell which ones were in the names.

I fact yesterday I never could authenticate the name Gizzabolla even though the scribe had written it pristinely. A couple of hours/batches later I found it again. I typed Pizzaballa into the paginebiache.it and it exists!!!! I was so surprised. But I couldn't go back and change the one I had submitted. I probably spent 20+ minutes on it the first time.

Andre Norton

10:29
Good Wednesday morning,

I spent hours yesterday researching Andre Norton(1912-2005), and sending  an omnibus edition to BPS and starting to read Beast Master '59 on line.

1 She was one of the most creative science fiction authors I have ever come across. One series of her books on another planet has the women guides and soldiers living on coffee. Many of them involve telepathy between talented humans and animals and aliens. Some of them include same gender love which always bugged me.

2 She used a number of different pen names so that although a woman she would be read by science fiction boys. (And I was one of them.)

3 Talk about prolific! 130 novels.

4 I love series because I can feel the personality of the main character and vicariously live his/her life. I don't have to say good bye at the end of every book!  Last night I finished one written by R. A. Salvatore. Our shop teacher at Tonaquint Intermediate School told me about this author. I had seen his books but Salvatore sounded foreign and the covers were intense and confusing. "Night of the Hunter, Companions Codex I" '14, was so unexpected and weird.  All the heroes died 20 years ago except for Drixt who is a long-lived, dark elf. They were all reborn and gathered together and still have all their old powers and secrets as they battle about 100 pages of the 380. But yay, the characters were back. I now their personalities and how they interact and I love their loyalty to each other although they each have hopes, dreams, goals pulling them apart.

5 There are online audio readers that will read any book aloud. But don't put any dashes or strange punctuation in the paragraphs or it will say funny numbers, and the mispronounced words almost make it impossible to understand. Yesterday I researched and tried for an hour or two to use a special reading system called DAISY, but couldn't get it to work. At one point it looked like you had to sign up for government aid and be blind or disabled to use it.

6 I got the color instructions, 3 pages, from the library to start using the books available on line for the public library a month ago. But it has taken me this long to think that downloading special reading programs would be safe and not damage the computer.

7 So the best part is. . . Brandon PS should receive his omnibus edition of '59, '62, "Beast Master" and "Lord of Thunder" tomorrow, for only $5.49!  That is less than the 64 Crayola Crayon's I sent him 3 weeks ago for over $6 and they are a controlled substance that he will never be able to touch or use but will be kept in his safety deposit box at Purgatory along with his other personal possessions  until he leaves! : (    Oops, I didn't understand.

8 Reading on line is something I hate. I plugged through 3 chapters last night because they were written so well but I was interrupted about every 2-3 minutes by an internet glitch and it had to tell me about it every time, change my position on the page and shrink my screen. Yuck!

9 I had a goal of learning how to download pictures from my phone for a couple of months and finally learned how last week. Maybe I will read and follow the instructions for using the library, WCL, down loads.

10 Melissa Wrench wrote me off yesterday! (At least that is when I read it.)She just stopped communicating on Saturday, August 9 and I texted and voicemailed but no response. And she had been so intent to connect and call and talk.  She was forever making appointments for when my next call would be and I would have to relax and remind her that it wasn't my appointment. Eventually I got her to call me when she wanted a call. Relief. So 9 days after our last exchange, and about 6 efforts on my part, she finally lets me know. I did not have any hopes of it materializing but was trying to see if I could get her figured out. She doesn't have a car and lives in NYC, was exploring the world and far from the church for a long time, collected 4 tattoos of which only two show when she is wearing a swimming suit, whose father is a new patriarch but can't stand being called one, whose mother was always depressed and crying while missymusic was growing up, whose father was seldom home and spent months in South America and ran the NYC LDS radio station for the church, who was bullied and ridiculed and beaten up in every grade for being a Mormon, but got contacts and shape and braces off as a senior and had the boys swarming around her unsuccessfully because she remembered their true colors and meanness.  She can't have kids. Speaks 4-5 languages. Loves Latin men and had one for 9 years and converted him and got him through the temple but never lived with him, with whom she broke up 2-3 months ago, but he still came over bought cheetos and they watched a new release together 3 weeks ago. I suspect she is emotionally handicapped and maybe mentally as well but I hadn't been able to pin her down quite enough to find out. Although I found out all about her thoughts on old men's saggy genitalia and her bra size without even asking. Reminded me of Mareea in some ways.

Hi Vern,

This is a very difficult subject to bring up. I do not want you to think it was anything personal, but I just became exclusive with someone I met on this site and I will no longer be replying to your calls or emails.

I wish you all the best and hope you find the love you deserve. You do deserve it because you are a special man.

best wishes,

Warmly,

Melissa

2nd Sunday in August

1:56p
Good afternoon Sunday,

A number of people during SS today shared temple experiences.
. Rat Hales shared how at times she has shared her testimony with the person she is proxy for and the response has come back to her, I know, isn't it wonderful. I agree with you.
. Elmer Rucker shared how he prays before he goes in that the person will accept the work and again when he is done.
. Joni Jardine shared she was young 19, going through the Salt Lake Temple her first time. She said there are wide stairs you have to walk down to go into the temple and then there is an open area. As she was crossing the open area to leave the temple her first time she found she couldn't move. She was just stuck there for about 2 minutes feeling overcome by the spirit of the work. She said, I couldn't move.
. Bp Q Sadams shared how his mind is racing when he goes in and he can't settle it down and focus.
. Cindi Bird talked about preparing before going as well.
.I had read Hezikiah's story this week in my new, wonderful Old Testament for LDS families, and I was captivated and shared the story of sending out letters to all the cities in the country and inviting them to come to a celebration for 7 days. Hez had a platform/wooden pulpit made in the street for him to speak from. He read to the people the book of the law from morn until noon. The people stood as soon as he started reading out of respect for the scriptures. After the first days reading the people began to cry, tearfully. They were devastated that they had never been told these things. Hez asked them to stop crying saying it is not your fault. It is a time to rejoice. Don't be sad. The people asked if they could follow what he had read and make huts on their rooftops and streets to live in for the next 6 days and not go into their houses. He said sure. So they did. I emphasized I would have a hard time standing and listening until noon. And that hearing the scriptures was a way to enter the temple as well. Of course I told it with all my dramatic flare. : )  Now I want to go read it again and see if I told it write. 2:14p

11:39a

Good morning Monday,

I wrote missymusic this morning and I entitled it Monday, Tuesday, 15yearoldkitty, I mean Wednesday.  Her follow-her-around-the-house cat's name is Wednesday which is the day she got her.

Sissymusic is one of the sisters I have gotten to know through my dating efforts on an lds dating website. I have been active on the site since just over 2 years ago. And it has not rendered a suitable partner yet.  And it has not been for lack of trying.  I have proposed 3 times: Layton, Sally and Mareea.  The last one I called off. None of them involved an engagement ring. And I can't say engagement ring without thinking of the pretend diamond Pandra wears. They want to wait until they can afford a real diamond. So foreign to my way of thinking.

I wanted to trash a folder entitled 3 lovely ladies. I guess some months ago I wrote this letter to send to 3 sisters on ldssc. None of them responded. As I reread it just now I thought, well that is a little forward.

Hello Lovely Lady Sister,

I missed church today and I am not sure who they had put the hymn numbers up and lead the music.  I have had bad-news stomach flu and only ate 3 yogurts yesterday.  I awoke at 8am then at 9:20am. Sacrament Meeting started at 9!!  Oops!

The music chairman emailed me on how I am doing/health wise/ but she did not say how they made out either.  I have explained and asked, so maybe she will update me.  I missed once, ONCE  last year when the time changed and I showed up an hour late. Or maybe that was the year before.  I never miss, and wouldn’t have today if I had stayed awake.

I have my stereo system set up so I can listen throughout the house. I bathed at noon and listened to Grateful in Any Circumstances
By President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
It was the richest listening so far!  When I was about 3/4ths the way through I thought, Would the Savior say it any differently?

So beautiful. So solutionful. If I were him and had to ache for the sorrowing Saints I would want an antidote as well/ balm of Gilead.

So will you/we pick the goblet or the bottle?

It might sound contrary to the wisdom of the world to suggest that one who is burdened with sorrow should give thanks to God. But those who set aside the bottle of bitterness and lift instead the goblet of gratitude can find a purifying drink of healing, peace, and understanding.
As disciples of Christ, we are commanded to “thank the Lord [our] God in all things,”1 to “sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving,”2 and to “let [our] heart be full of thanks unto God.”3

Sounds like the Genie is in the goblet this time!

==================================================================

Last week there were four younger women/sisters that I welcomed/wrote right here in Saint George. All of them opened the letter but only one responded. I wrote her back today and told her the results of that experiment and thanked her for her courage. What follows it the note I sent that got responded to.

Hello macie,

I'll bet the people in Bolivia loved your blue eyes!

I wanted to start a club of singles here in Saint George from those of us with Ldss.c accounts. Try as I might it has not worked so far. Perhaps it is because the length of time people stay members of this website is usually only months.

I am retired after teaching Jr. High science for 33 years. My principal thought I was turning into a mad scientist. I wasn't, at least I don't think so.

I lead the music in my ward's sacrament meetings and had never done anything like that until 4 years ago. I have always loved to sing, even as a tot in primary. But back then I couldn't tell when I was on key and when I wasn't.

I have written you 5 little paragraphs. There are only 125 people on line at this hour and 3 of the girls are from Saint George. Unusual. How about writing me 5 little paragraphs back? If you don't want to tell me about yourself like I told you about me, or you could just type me 5 articles of faith.

Cloudy day

1:08p

Good afternoon Tuesday,

The back of my neck on the right side is sore and a bit stiff. I changed water in a 55 and 95 gallon tank yesterday and I must have jerked a few of those 5 g up a few times instead of lifting them carefully.  Oops. Plus that is a lot of gallons in one day.

I moved my 2 year old convicts to the garage pond today. I captured all 3 albino oscars to see how they were doing and then mixed up their ponds. I cleaned the 150 g pond filter. There has been no sunshine, just shade today so it was great working with the fish outdoors.  I was thinking about moving all the yellows to the 150 under the almond tree but I saw so many baby platies that I decided no to.

No mail today. Just writing CJ and Brandon at Purgatory has changed my whole attitude about the mail box.  : )

Rod visited 2+ hours Sunday night and I showed and read him my minibook "Things that Fly" for Crooklyn. He wrote a book called Michael's Bicycle for a senior english project at PVHS and was so so excited about his creation. He loved reading it to Michael's group of classmates at school.

He and Amity came by to borrow my bike so they could go on a bike ride. Of course Amity did not greet me nor come in.  She started last Tuesday down in Vegas being trained as a dog trainer. She drove up Sunday night since she had Monday/yesterday off.

I ate three raw almonds just now to see what they taste like and to test my allergies to them again. I made more caves in the 60 gal and added 2 b.plecos to the 3 or 4 or 5 that are already in there. Amity had pleco babies and 1/4 of them are albino and I am jealous. I have 2 babies surviving in a 10 g tank but that is all this summer. I moved adult mollies around from the garage pond.

Listened to a number of conference talks this morning. Returned 8 books, new releases, I am not going to read right now to the library so others can read them. Got a free frozen macaroni dinner from Smith's Friday download last night. Bought 4 lbs of whiting and I am curing some in vinegar right now. The biggest deal last night was putting 10+ plastics in the freezer with the picante wheat/ham casserole in them. Relief it is all finally taken care of. I experimented with using cracked wheat in it but it was yucky. I carefully cut all the fat and skin into thin slices from the Cooks ham I got Friday and they were yucky too. Good thing I have dogs. By the way, no bad effects from the year old eggs as far as the dogs were concerned. (thank heavens again!)

Our Lord of the Gospels: Sound Boring?

7:35p

Good evening Wednesday,

Sometime ago I heard TS Monson speak of visiting J. Reuben Clark Jr. when JRC was trying to put together a book matching all the gospels up to each other, all five. 3 Nephi included. I am not much of a NTestament conosueir and I have been studying all kinds of awesome scriptures and gospel histories, so why not try it out. It may be like Lucy Mack Smith's History book that GBHinkley held up in conference. If I remember right Hugh Nibley wrote the Melchizedek Priesthood manual for '58. This one is from '57, the year before and it is a jewel.  I can imagine myself carefully organizing all the gospels like this so I could have everything in sequence and see when their were 3 testimonies covering the event/teaching and when there was only one.  I have been amazed at how often there is only one story line during the anticipation of Christ's birth and the beginning of his ministry at 30!

I finally got into the meat of the comparisons this afternoon. Up till now has been studying the overviews. The most significant thing that stuck out to me as I read were the reassurances that were given to those who were to act on faith.

John is the only one who speaks of the pre-existence and creation.

John 1:10-11 were cool.  10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
Verse 17 was sweet too. 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

I found it strange that Luke was writing his rendition for Theophilus.  Thank you Theophilus or we wouldn't have a Christmas Story! Luke 1:3,4  It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
So how was Zacharias spiritually strengthened to know it was true. Although too old, he would still have a son?  First the angel testified to him. Luke 1:13-17 13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Not bad huh! An angel to testify to you! But it still wasn't quite believable. Who knows how long it had been since Z had had an erection, and besides his old wife had never even had a child to begin with. So he questioned the angel. Sure enough he got another sign, but this one he must have received joyfully. "thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until. . ."  I have always felt sorry for Z. But now I see that after a long life of service and dedication and speaking, what would 9 months of silence be if he could have a son at the end of it.  What would seem to me a painful experience was pure joy to him. Each day it was a constant reminder of God having taken over his life and the role he would soon play. Lucky!
And now a second theme I am noticing more and more in the scriptures, God does not do it in the easiest way. Instead he makes it a miracle so all will remember!  How does Elisabeth feel about all this? "Elisabeth conceived and hid herself 5 months, saying, thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men." Hey everybody, I am not barren after all! Yippee! You know how long I have waited for this? I gave up hope years and years ago.
So an old barren aunt is having a baby and now the virgin niece is having one too!  Who better to share the excitement with? One miracle deserves another! And all in the family! And who tells Mary about it? Gabriel to cap off his testimony. So Mary has more than words as evidence! Luke 1 :36,37.   36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
So what testimony of JC did Gabriel bear to Mary?  Luke 1:26-38   26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing Iknow not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Poor old Joseph, Mary's future husband is distraught. He is kind and generous and chooses to put her away privily, not wanting to make of her a public example.  What a test! He had worried and prayed. Decision made, he was brought into the club with a revelation/testimony as well. Matt. 1:20-25
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her first born son: and he called his name JESUS.
Did you notice the extra convincing the angel gave Joseph in verse 23? He quoted Old Testament scripture! How many times had Joseph heard that scripture? And now he was to play a role in it? Thank you Heavenly Father. I would be happy to fulfill this calling. What a privilege.  Thanks. Looks like this is for real.
So now back to Mary. She can't wait. This is way too exciting. I have got to go talk to aunt Elisabeth, 6 months pregnant? She'll be showing! Then when Elisabeth hears Mary's voice she gives Mary her testimony. Luke 1:41-45   41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed artthou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
Mary can't keep it in. She needs to bear witness as well. Luke 1:46-55 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call meblessed.
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; andholy is his name.
50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
 54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of hismercy;
55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
So how long did Mary stay with Elisabeth? 56. And Mary abode with her about 3 months, and returned to her own house.
No kidding? 6 months plus 3 months make 9 months. Why didn't Mary stay for the birth, or maybe she did. What did Zacharias have to say about all this? Not much. : )
